You’re half way through a recipe and find out that you don’t have that one ingredient?
You’re at a point in the recipe where you can’t just run to the store for that one ingredient?
Well here are a few ideas for some ingredient substitutions:
Baking powder . . 1 teaspoon . . 1 teaspoon baking soda plus 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
Bread crumbs . . . 1/4 cup . . . 1/4 cup finely crushed crackers, corn flakes, or oats
Brown sugar . . 1 cup . . . 1 cup granulated sugar (can add 1 teaspoon molasses for flavor)
Buttermilk . . . 1 cup . . . 1 cup plain yogurt, or add 1 Tablespoon lemon juice or white vinegar to 1 cup milk, let it stand for a few minutes before using.
Cornstarch . . . 1 Tablespoon . . . 2 Tablespoons flour, or 4 teaspoons tapioca
